Application and Selection Process
Step One: Pre-Application
Inform UMass of your interest in applying for the SEEN-McCormack Graduate Fellowship by clicking the SEEN-McCormack Graduate Fellowship pre-application button below and fully completing the form. All questions must be filled out completely and honestly to be considered.
Note: The SEEN-McCormack Graduate Fellowship pre-application form does not constitute as an application for admission into the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst, nor does submitting the form make one eligible for admission into the Isenberg School of Management. By submitting the SEEN-McCormack Graduate Fellowship pre-application form, you are giving SEEN permission to share your information with UMass Amherst.
Step Two: Apply Online
Upon receipt and completion of the SEEN-McCormack Graduate Fellowship pre-application form, the McCormack Department of Sport Management will send you a link to the general UMass Graduate Application website through which you must register to apply online and submit your complete application for either the MS or MBA/MS in Sport Management program (the $75 application fee will be waived). Following, candidates will proceed with the regular admission process, which is handled directly between the applicant and the McCormack Department of Sport Management. McCormack will review applications and accept candidates on a rolling basis beginning November 1, 2024. The Fellowships will also be awarded on a rolling basis. The final application deadline is February 1st, 2025.
To be considered for admission into either the MS or MBA/MS graduate programs, be eligible for the SEEN-McCormack Graduate Fellowship and the application fee waiver described above, both the SEEN-McCormack Graduate Fellowship pre-application form and any materials/requirements related to the regular UMass Amherst Graduate School admissions process must be submitted by February 1st, 2025.
Any candidates who do not submit by this date will not be considered for the SEEN-McCormack Graduate Fellowship, and will not have the ability to have their application fee waived.
Step Three: On-Campus Interview*
Top candidates will be invited to a two-day on-campus interview session with McCormack faculty, held in late January, to determine admission into the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst (reference Excluded Fees section above). SEEN plays no role in determining a candidate’s admission into the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst. At least two SEEN-McCormack Graduate Fellowship recipients will be selected from the pool of candidates that have been accepted to the respective graduate programs. Recipients will be notified no later than early April.
How is the Recipient Selected and How Will They Be Notified?
Upon acceptance into the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst, SEEN will review each applicant's SEEN-McCormack Graduate Fellowship pre-application. SEEN will then consider the following factors when determining the recipient of the SEEN-McCormack Graduate Fellowship (in no particular order, and not based on an order of precedence): (1) full completion of the SEEN-McCormack Graduate Fellowship pre-application; (2) the McCormack Department of Sport Management’s recommendations based on their application process; (3) submission of a short essay question or completion of an interview with SEEN, which may be requested at a later date, and an analysis of each applicant’s originality, enthusiasm, and candor in describing why they deserve the SEEN-McCormack Graduate Fellowship; and (4) race, gender, and background.
The potential recipients will be notified by phone on or around early April and may be required to sign and return by email within ten (10) business days of notification any required documentation. If a potential recipient does not reply to such notification within five (5) business days, a notification is undeliverable after up to three (3) attempts and/or a recipient declines their admission into the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst, or a potential recipient is not in compliance for any reason, such potential recipient will be disqualified and, at SEEN’s discretion, an alternate recipient will be selected.
McCormack will independently review applications and accept candidates.
Fellowships will be awarded on a rolling basis beginning November 1, 2024.
Final application deadline is February 1st, 2025.
Legal Notices
By completing the SEEN-McCormack Graduate Fellowship pre-application, each candidate agrees to the following terms.
Among other rights, by accepting the SEEN-McCormack Graduate Fellowship the recipient grants SEEN the right to use his/her name, voice, likeness and biographical information for programming, advertising, and promotional purposes, in any manner in any media and/or technologies throughout the world in perpetuity without further compensation.
Each candidate warrants and represents the following: (a) the candidate is a current citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States and at least eighteen (18) years of age; (b) the candidate will honestly and accurately submit all information; and (c) the completion of the SEEN-McCormack Graduate Fellowship pre-application will not infringe on any rights of any third parties.
Each candidate agrees to, accepts and shall abide by these guidelines and agrees that any disputes shall be resolved by SEEN, in its sole discretion.
SEEN and the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst reserve the right to cancel/terminate, modify, amend or suspend the SEEN-McCormack Graduate Fellowship if in their sole determination it believes that the integrity of the submission process has been, or could be, compromised or that the SEEN-McCormack Graduate Fellowship is not capable of running as planned or fairly, including without limitation due to tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, public health crisis, or force majeure, or any other causes beyond SEEN and the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst control.
By participating, and fully submitting their application, each candidate agrees to hold harmless the Sports and Entertainment Equity Network Association, its respective employees, officers, directors, representatives, agents, successors and assigns, from any liability whatsoever, and waive and release such parties from any and all causes of action, for any claims, costs, injuries, losses, or damages of any kind (including, without limitation, claims, costs, injuries, losses and damages related to personal injuries, death, damage to or destruction of property, rights of publicity or privacy, defamation or portrayal in a false light, whether intentional or unintentional) arising out of or in connection with the SEEN-McCormack Graduate Fellowship, or which may occur in connection with, preparation for, travel to, or participation in the application process, interviewing, potential acceptance into, admittance, and potential attendance, and any candidates potential performance at the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst, the SEEN-McCormack Graduate Fellowship or the acceptance and/or use or misuse of the SEEN-McCormack Graduate Fellowship and for any claims based on publicity rights, defamation or invasion of privacy, whether under a theory of contract, torts (including, without limitation, negligence), warranty, or any other theory or cause of action.
Each candidate additionally agrees that: (1) any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of or connected with the SEEN-McCormack Graduate Fellowship shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by the an appropriate New York State Court; (2) any and all claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with participating in the SEEN-McCormack Graduate Fellowship, but in no event attorneys' fees; and (3) under no circumstances will a candidate be permitted to obtain awards for, and entrant hereby waives all rights to claim, indirect, punitive, incidental and consequential damages and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses (if any), and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased.
